ABSTRACT
Objective. To inform the results obtained in the treatment of complete third degree rectal prolapse, using the posterior rectopexy with plasmatic mesh technique. Setting. Army Regional Hospital of Acapulco, Gro. Design. Prospective, descriptive and longitudinal study. Patients and method. We include adult patients in good shape with no neurological diseases, that present third degree full rectal prolapse. We registered age, sex, concomitant suffering, incontinence and its magnitude, constipation, previous surgeries with recurrence of relapse, complications during and after the surgery, use of drainage, use of antibiotecs and recurrance of relapse. The Testing was done after a month, after three and six months, and every year up until three years. Results. Six patients were operated. The age was 65 years. 5 females and 1 male, 2 had mellitus diabetes. 2 had minor incontinence, and 4 constipation 2 patients with previous surgeries had relapse. No trans or post operation complications took place and we used perioperation antibiotics. There are also no recurrance of any relapse. Conlusions. In selected adult patients, the posterior rectopexy with plastic mesh is a safe, afficient and technically simple treatment for complete third degree rectal prolapse.
