ABSTRACT
The article reports on the completion of the acquisition of Swiss precision wafering systems supplier HCT Shaping Systems SA, whose tools are used to manufacture crystalline silicon substrates for the solar industry, by semiconductor manufacturing equipment maker Applied Materials Inc. Under the agreement, Applied paid approximately $483 million in cash for all outstanding shares of the privately-held HCT. HCT is now part of Applied's recently established precision wafering systems division.
