ABSTRACT
The article discusses direct-deposit programs for unbanked Spanish-speaking workers, who prefer saving and spending in cash. Directo introduced payroll cards where the employees' paychecks are loaded so that they do not have to use only cash in paying their bills and buying things. The positive results of the program include reduced risk of exposing corporate account numbers, the elimination of chaos during payday and increased efficiency by eliminating lost checks and administration costs.
