This article reports that J.C. Penney Co. Inc. has contacted agency review consultants in January 2000 as it explores a shift of its retail account, which roughly amounts to $300,000,000. The bulk of the business is currently housed at Temerlin McClain Inc. which has handled the account since 1991. One executive said that Penney executives expressed general dissatisfaction with Temerlin. Temerlin has been scrambling to save the account, according to another executive close to the shop. It is unclear if the media buying of Penney will be included in the review. Also not yet know is if the Eckerd Drug division of Penney would be placed in review.
