ABSTRACT
The article reports on the introduction of the military's first three-dimensional (3-D) vision system by Walter Reed Army Medical Center (WRAMC) in Washington, D.C. The military decided to use the 3-D vision system to help visualize and guide a surgeon during a laparoscopic procedure at WRAMC. The 3-D laparoscopy device is part of a project that involves robotic surgery and invasive surgery in which the new technologies are being introduced by the Army at all military health-care facilities.
