ABSTRACT
This article discusses an aspect of a presentation by Microsoft's Business Division president Jeff Raikes, that claims that the company's proprietary codec is able to compensate for noise inserted into the network. The article discusses whether or not Microsoft is able to preserve voice quality in this process. Microsoft released a paper, produced by Psytechnics, that compared Microsoft's system with the Cisco company's system. The two were compared within six different scenarios, including a good-quality network without burstiness and with little packet loss, one which was connected through multiple sites with lots of jitter and burstiness, and one with no Internet Protocol impairments. The article discusses the results of these comparisons.
