ABSTRACT
The article presents the views of pharmacists on how to address a patient who is experiencing intolerable, severe pain despite taking already 100 mg of tramadol for chronic back pain. One pharmacist suggests that the nurse practitioner should consider another analgesic, titrate the patient to pain relief and then taper the dose over an appropriate time period. Another pharmacist recommends addressing the underlying chronic pain condition, comorbid psychiatric condition(s) and current medications.
