ABSTRACT
The article presents a summary of the drug candidates for the treatment of thyroid cancer in the U.S. Sodium iodide I-131 (DraxImage), a radioactive iodine, is already approved for use in evaluating thyroid function and for localization of cancer that has metastasized outside the thyroid. A phase II study of AstraZeneca PLC's Vandetanib in metastatic thyroid cancer demonstrated the drug could reduce tumor size. Research shows that romidepsin, a class of drugs called histone deacetylase inhibitors, causes tumor cell death and exhibits antitumor activity.
