ABSTRACT
The article reports that pharmacy chain Walgreen Co. will pay $24 million to settle a class-action lawsuit alleging that the company engaged in systematic discrimination against African-American employees in the U.S. The lawsuit mentions the allegations that African-American employees were passed over for promotions to management positions in spite of experience, seniority and qualifications. According to Walgreen, the company denied all allegations, citing that it has a history of commitment to fairness, diversity and equality and 15% of its staff pharmacists are African-American compared with the industry average of 10%.
