ABSTRACT
The article reports that the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has announced the creation of the Emergency Prescription Assistance Program (EPAP). According to CMS, the program will work similarly to third-party insurance providing pharmacists with specific instructions on how to handle prescriptions for victims of disasters. The agency adds that its partner Argus Health Systems will start building a network of pharmacies. Upon Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA) activation of the EPAP system, disaster victims will be able to obtain prescription drugs, replace maintenance drugs and get certain covered durable medical devices in the participating pharmacies.
