ABSTRACT
The article focuses on the development of the OpenURL standard, a uniform resource locator (URL) adopted by libraries, to address the difficulty in switching from citations to the full-text electronic journals that are available through dynamic links. It carries information that are often an article citation and has the ability to use the existing standards such as Digital Object Identifier (DOI) and Z39.50 to create links. Such adoption has improved the library service and the use of library resources as it alleviates the access from an information resource to the library service components. Through such service, end users are given a seamless access to full-text article-level linking regardless of switching from one database to another.
