The article reports that electric utilities are searching for tree-trimming guidelines in the U.S. Hazard trees that are outside the right of way are considered dangerous and could also hinder the services offered by electric utilities. PPL Electric Utilities Corp. (PPL EU) has adopted a distribution trim cycles for circuits in rural and urban areas through vegetation management which determines the proper ways of cutting hazard trees to improve sustained customer interruptions (SAIFI).
