ABSTRACT
The article presents information on the market for rare earths, the lanthanides, yttrium and scandium in the U.S. Major uses of lanthanide ore were in automotive catalytic converters, petroleum fluid-cracking catalysts and permanent magnets, among others. In 2006, the total tonnage of U.S. rare-earth imports increased 19 percent.
