ABSTRACT
This article reports that the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services urges healthcare providers to view their records to ensure that the information they furnished is current, accurate, and does not include private information. Health insurance specialist Aryeh Langer said that many healthcare providers inadvertently included personal data like Social Security numbers, birth dates, and home phone numbers on their National Provider Identification forms. Most pharmacies billing CMS are currently required to either use NPI numbers or have a contingency plan in place for compliance.
