ABSTRACT
The article discusses the integration of wireless local area networks (WLAN) and voice over internet protocols (VOIP) technology into a different communication system. Standards for voice over WLAN (VoWLAN) systems will be established by 2008. VoWLAN systems allow users access to telecommunication systems from a device with one phone number through a dual mode service called fixed/mobile convergence (FMC). VoWLAN systems can be integrated with private branch exchange (PBX) systems. Standards for quality of service and security for VoWLAN include 802.11e and 802.11i. A voice certification system for VoWLAN is being developed by the Wi-Fi Alliance (WFA). INSET: Some VoWLAN Cases.
