ABSTRACT
The article on a compact, fluidic-fiber dye laser that can operate without the use of an external mirror demonstrated at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland and Macquarie University in Australia. The lasing action is based on capillary action taking place within the tubes of a photonic-crystal fiber. Moreover, the new fluidic-fiber dye laser allows for the tuning of the lasing wavelength by varying the chromophore density in the liquid core.
