ABSTRACT
The article reports on the use of nanoscale metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistors (MOSFETS) by researchers at NTT, Shisuoka University and Hokkaido University to detect light at up to 1.5 micrometer wavelengths in Japan. Conduction-band electrons are excited by incoming infrared light. The electron signals are then detected by a gain cell that senses charge with single-electron resolution.
