Bernstein bails presidency

The article reports that Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) President Doctor Alan Bernstein has resigned his post effective October 31, 2007. Bernstein comments on the timing of his departure and his track record as CIHR president for seven years. The basic biomedical research community has become discontented as success rates in grant competitions began to drop as the agency's base budget was contained by the federal government to 5% or less in each of the past three years.
