ABSTRACT
The article reports on the state of the power sector in Iraq. Approved by the World Bank and the UN Development Programme, Baghdad's 20-year masterplan to overhaul the sector requires about $27,300 million worth of investment. Some $4,500 million will be spent on installing new generation plants and rehabilitating existing ones. One plan, which is being looked at by international companies, is to take advantage of the country's 900 million cubic-feet-a-day gas production.
