ABSTRACT
The article presents the research of current practices in academic leadership identification in higher education conducted on land grant universities in 2004. It discussed how mid-level academic leaders are identified, what position they held when they were identified, whether they were internal or external candidates and how they were selected as potential leaders. It was concluded that nearly half the academic leaders felt well prepared for their current position and leadership in general.
