The article reports that the entire House Energy and Commerce Committee discussed a broad energy bill in the U.S. One issue that caught their attention was whether to pursue the isolation of energy security or that it should not be divorced from policies to mitigate climatic change. Concerning energy security, the federal government has approved mandates to increase ethanol production to 36 billion gallons to lessen heavy reliance on an increasingly tight global oil market.
