Lawmakers say value-added tax would aid U.S. exporters by leveling world-trade playing field

The article reports that many worried lawmakers have believed that tax policies are part of the expanding trade deficit and the so-called disappearing U.S. manufacturing sector. According to presidential hopeful Representative Duncan Hunter and groups of textile producers and manufacturers, almost every country in the world has a value-added tax (VAT) system, making it easier for them to export the product. However, U.S. manufacturers get no rebate from the government because there is no VAT.
