ABSTRACT
The article reports on the enhancement of the electro-optic effect by the researchers at the Institute-Femto-ST in Besançon, France by adding a photonic-crystal (PC) structure to lithium niobate to slow light within the material, producing a miniature modulator that needs power to operate. It stated that the transmission spectrum was measured using a white-light source consisting of a microchip laser whose nanosecond pulse were coupled into 20 m of photonic-crystal fiber.
