ABSTRACT
The article reports on the use of a diode-laser-based technique by dentists that can detect cracks and help prevent tooth decay. A laser device that uses thermal radiation and light waves could replace x-rays as the diagnostic standard in dental care. Andreas Mandelis of the University of Toronto's Centre for Advanced Diffusion Wave Studies realized that subsurface defects in tooth enamel could be detected using the same approach.
