Laser Focus World;Jun2007, Vol. 43 Issue 6, p15
The article reports on the demonstration of the first edge-emitting photonic-crystal (PC) nanocavity laser by the researchers at the University of Southern California and University of Texas at Austin, and the University of Central Florida in the U.S. The PC laser has a small mode volume and high collection efficiency, and distributed-feedback lasers. Moreover, a PC double heterostructure forms the laser cavity and consists of several segments of single-line-defect PC waveguides.
