ABSTRACT
The article reports on the status of efforts by U.S. President George W. Bush to pass the proposed immigration reform bill, which would grant amnesty to illegal immigrants. The remarks made by Bush against the opponents of the bill created a torrent of criticism from his political base. His efforts have also affected his overall approval rating, according to separate surveys by NBC News/Wall Street Journal and the Pew Research Center, and Gallup.
