ABSTRACT
The article discusses the relationship between Frank Blake, the chief executive officer (CEO) of Home Depot, who reached out to the company's founders, Arthur Blank and Bernie Marcus. Blake's predecessor, Bob Nardelli, stepped down because of charges of fraudulent accounting practices. Blank and Marcus helped Blake to improve the company. It is noted that most CEOs do not participate in the management of their companies after retirement. INSET: STEPPING DOWN GRACEFULLY--OR NOT.
