ABSTRACT
The article focuses on the purchase of telecommunication company Alltel by TPG Capital and Goldman Sachs. The acquisition is valued at $27.5 billion private equity. Alltel has bulked up in wireless voice and broadband EV-DO to 12 million subscribers by separating wireless from wireline, and in 2002, it bought the wireless assets from fixed and mobile operator CenturyTel. Other buyout deals in the telecommunication sector are also cited.
