ABSTRACT
The article investigates whether sex abstinence programs effectively prevent teenagers from engaging in premarital sex in the U.S. The results of a congressional mandated study showed that these abstinence until marriage sex education classes, which were funded by the government, are not working. The researchers noted that 49 percent of the students in both the control and study groups abstained from sex on the duration of the study. Almost one in four teenagers in both groups had sexual intercourse using condom, 17 percent had sex using condoms occasionally, while four percent had sex and never used a condom.
