ICI beats expectations

This article reports on the financial performance of ICI in its fiscal 2007 first quarter (Q1). The company reported Q1 trading profits of £101 million from continuing operations, up 5% on improved margins compared with Q1 2006. Sales fell by 2% to £1.15 billion but actually rose by 6% if currency effects were excluded. Sales in the North American decorative paints division were down 4%, hit by the downturn in the U.S. housing market.
