ABSTRACT
The article focuses on mergers and acquisitions (M&A) of Web-based businesses and the reasons that the combined companies can fail. A standard growth model for M&A is presented in which two complementary companies merge. A technology M&A model is also presented and is an example of equipment suppliers sharing the risk of developing technologies with funds from outside investors. Survival M&As are used by companies in financial trouble that merge with a competitor to maintain stability for its shareholders. The M&A models are controlled by market changes within the information technology industry.
