ABSTRACT
The article focuses on the techniques that network managers can use to ensure the maximum return on investment (ROI) for wide area network (WAN) acceleration. It is noted that some companies have limited information technology budgets and cannot afford to choose an unacceptable product. It is recommended that network solutions first be tested in a controlled environment before being introduced to the whole network. Suggestions for creating realistic testing scenarios are offered. Traffic conditions should, for example, mimic those that the vendor's product would meet under real world conditions. Methods for calculating "performance ROI" are offered and include a comparison of different vendors' products.
