This article examines the growth of road and trail running footwear markets. The author outlines three main trends that are spurring this growth; lightweight technologies, innovation in design and consumer's interest in healthy lifestyles. The article examines how several companies such as Saucony, North Face and Vibram are incorporating these trends in their designs. The author notes that the culmination of these trends explains the growth of high-end performance running shoes in 2007.
