ABSTRACT
The article discusses the steps that hikers should take when they are lost in the forest. It relates the experience of Robert Hicks, a man who lost his way while hiking in the Adirondack Park in New York. According to the author, hikers should have a basic survival kit with them. This kit includes, among others, matches in a waterproof container, knife and a signal device like a whistle or mirror. A person who is lost in the woods should stay calm, think, observe and plan.
