Critics round on abandoned GTL project

May 2007
MEED: Middle East Economic Digest;5/11/2007, Vol. 51 Issue 19, p15
The article reports on the decision of the Algeria Energy & Mines Ministry to cancel its first gas-to-liquids (GTL) project on April 21, 2007. The project had been complicated by a number of factors. The rise in costs, the implications of and confusion surrounding a new hydrocarbons law introduced in July 2005, and the client's preference for a smaller GTL plant than the one favoured by the bidders all led to protracted negotiations, according to the report.
