ABSTRACT
The article discusses the proposed changes to Section 12 of the 2006 American Society for Testing Materials E 477 standard used for testing silencers. The standard is also used in the Certified Ratings Program for duct silencers. To ensure precision and reduce bias in testing, it suggests installing a horn-shaped duct fitting, using a reference test silencer, standardizing the length of the test duct systems and standardizing the exact location of the silencer test specimen in the duct system.
