ABSTRACT
The article discusses a business plan a company should follow when adopting new technologies. According to Mary Johnston Turner, an Ovum Summit vice president, a study done in 2006 by her company found that organizations with information technology service management (ISTM) experience are more likely to meet their business goals when they later undertake service-oriented architecture (SOA), server virtualization, blade server, or datacenter consolidation projects. Turner's data shows a stronger correlation between ITSM and virtualization and datacenter consolidation than between ITSM and SOA. She believes this is because SOA requires a broader life cycle view. Overall, she believes that businesses that transition slowly, but maintain a steady pace do best in the long run.
