ABSTRACT
The article discusses businesses considering moving to pure Internet protocol (IP)-telephony systems. The author says that while some information technology managers are concerned over the risks and costs of changing their infrastructure, they might think about using unified communications (UC) application servers. The servers allow companies to use IP technologies while allowing them to slowly change over their infrastructure. He contends that using UC solutions can help in limiting a drastic change. The companies will be able to switch over with little or no disruption to employees and no need for retraining on new equipment or software.
