ABSTRACT
The article focuses on the arrest of the Iranian-born and naturalized American Haleh Esfandiari. Reportedly, during a recent visit with her mother in Tehran, Iran, Esfandiari was mugged and her passports were stolen. Since then Esfandiari has under gone interrogations by Iranian intelligence agents and was taken to Evin prison in Tehran. The author says that Esfandiari's case is an example of actions taken by hard-liners in Iran in the name of national security and public order.
