ABSTRACT
The article offers news briefs on innovations in the chemical industry as of April 23, 2007. Sasol Technology and Avantium Technologies aim to develop catalyst technologies to optimize Sasol's production of liquid fuels from coal or natural gas using Fischer-Tropsch chemistry. Honeywell has developed a blowing agent to replace hydrofluorocarbon R-1342a, used to expand one-component foams in sealing applications. BASF and Voestalpine Stahl have developed a steel passivation compound free of heavy metals and fluoride.
