ABSTRACT
The article reports that the tax evasion charges on the TATA Chemical company's production complex at Haldia, West Bengal have been dismissed by the customs and excise tribunal for lack of merit in April 2007. TATA Chemicals won its appeal against the government's demand for excise duty payments and penalties totalling 5.56 billion Indian rupees covering a 6-year period from September 1, 1999 to September 30, 2005.
