Beasley, Jean

Guideposts;May2007, Vol. 62 Issue 3, p94
The author recounts an experience organizing a rescue operation for sea turtles on Topsail Island, North Carolina. Together with her daughter, they swept over the trenches left by mother turtles so their nests would be undisturbed. They kept track of the nests they found and reported them to wildlife officials. When her daughter was diagnosed with leukemia, she lived permanently on the island and gave lectures explaining the vital role that sea turtles play in the ocean's ecosystem.
