ABSTRACT
The article reports on the outlook of Oppenheimer & Co. media analyst Tom Eagan that Rentrak Corp. will become a rival to Nielsen Media Research Inc. in providing ratings data for cable networks. He believed that Rentrak, which began as a video-on-demand ratings service for cable operators, could become a major competitor to Nielsen. Eagan added that the recent disputes between U.S. television networks and Nielsen might provide Rentrak its chance to be a second source of rating.
