Storage Magazine;Apr2007, Vol. 6 Issue 2, p50
The article discusses the features of serial-attached (SAS) and Internet small computer system interface (iSCSI) host bus adapters (HBA) and their issues. SAS and iSCSI HBA are the new tools in server-to-storage connectivity with SAS HBA replacing parallel SCSI HBA while iSCSI HBA offers the option to use an Ethernet storage network in lieu of a more costly Fibre Channel storage area network for company servers. SAS HBA eliminate storage input-output throughput bottlenecks while iSCSI HBA open the door to connect high performance servers to Ethernet storage networks. SAS and iSCSI HBA however have their issues such as the lack of N_Port ID Virtualization and the need for a bridge or router for SAS or iSCSI HBA to communicate with legacy storage devices.
