ABSTRACT
This article focuses on the television advertisements launched by Internet service provider Prodigy Communications Corp. in 1999. The advertisements, created by advertising agency TBWA/Chiat/Day, featured singer Aretha Franklin and basketball player Larry Bird, stuck in menial jobs, but displaying extraordinary abilities, stating that they were prodigies. The advertisements were found to be charming but misleading, as what the company actually did was not mentioned at all during the advertisement.
