The article reports that San Jose, California-based Cisco Inc. has hired a fulltime investment manager in Moscow to find venture capital funding opportunities in Russia. It has also announced that its first Russian investment was made in Ozon, an e-commerce company that offers retail services similar to Amazon.com. Cisco has invested more than $1 billion in startups over the last few years, but the bulk of that money has landed in the U.S. However, it has broadened its horizon in the last six months, making key investments in Europe, Israel, China, and India. In December 2006, it invested $50 million in China Communications Services.
