Shaw misjudges costs

The article reports on the cost estimates errors of engineering contractor Shaw Group in a U.S. Gulf coast petrochemicals project. The authors note that the delayed reporting of the contractor of its second-quarter result caused pending in the investigation into errors in the cost estimates. Shaw Group announced that costs could be $7 to 12 million higher than expected or $4 to 7 million after taxes, which could bring a loss on the project of about the same amount.
