ABSTRACT
The article focuses on the wireless-data formats demonstrated by cellular carriers at the 2007 show of the Cellular Telecommunications Industry Association in the U.S. Ultra Mobile Broadband (UMB) and Long-Term Evolution (LTE) are the other options for boosting high-speed data services and delivering wireless Voice-over Internet Protocol service. The author says that UMB is the path that code division multiple access carriers will take as it promises to provide download speeds of up to 291 Megabytes per second, while the LTE is the path for global system for mobile communication carriers. He adds that although both technologies were demonstrated at the show, devices that will use them will be commercially available by 2010.
