The article focuses on confectionary/sweet, snack and salty snack categories which achieved remarkable growth in 2006. As per ACNielsen Convenience Track data, salty snacks achieved a larger sales increase than candy/gum in 2006. According to Coney Elliot, vice president of marketing, in 2007 the snacks category is holding its own at Midland, Texas-based Kent Oil Inc. Elliot further mentions other categories like tobacco and general merchandise which are trending very high.
