ABSTRACT
The article discusses a workshop on Internet telephony at a business communications conference. A request for proposals of Internet telephony systems was given to 10 leading system suppliers, including Alcatel-Lucent SA, Cisco Systems Inc. and Siemens Communications Inc. The proposed systems were required to support a variety of desktop phone types. Design requirements included high resolution graphical pixel displays, wideband voice codecs, and full duplex speakerphones.
